Meet Greg Barr

Off-Road Vehicle Safety Instructor

For Greg Barr, off-road vehicle safety is more than a profession—it is a lifelong passion built on decades of industry experience, professional instruction, and time spent riding Ontario’s trails.

Experience You Can Trust

Greg began working in the small-engine industry at the age of 14 through a high school co-op program. After completing college in the same trade, he built a career in the power-equipment and off-road vehicle industry, gaining extensive experience in service, sales, technical support, and professional training.

His career also included working as a national technical trainer for Briggs & Stratton, where he trained dealership technicians across Canada. That experience helped Greg develop the clear, practical teaching style he brings to every QuadTraining course today.

Greg’s passion for ATV riding eventually led him into rider safety education. He became actively involved with the Ontario Federation of ATV Clubs (OFATV), serving as a director and later representing Ontario on the Canadian Quad Council (CQC). Through these roles, he helped support the advancement of ATV safety and rider education across Canada.

Specialized Off-Road Vehicle Training

Today, Greg has dedicated his career to providing professional rider safety training through QuadTraining Inc.

By specializing in off-road vehicle safety, he can continually refine his curriculum, invest in modern training equipment, and keep his instruction aligned with evolving vehicle technology, manufacturer recommendations, industry practices, and applicable legislation.

Greg has completed instructor certifications and professional development through organizations including:

His curriculum is regularly reviewed and updated to reflect current industry expectations and occupational health and safety principles.

Practical Training for Real-World Conditions

Greg’s courses go beyond teaching participants how to operate a vehicle. Riders learn how to recognize hazards, assess terrain, manage risk, make sound decisions, and respond confidently to changing conditions.

Every course combines professional instruction with practical, real-world experience. Training is designed around the situations riders may encounter at work, on private property, or while enjoying Ontario’s trail systems.

From his dedicated private training facility in Haliburton, Ontario, Greg provides training for:

  • New and experienced recreational riders
  • Families and private groups
  • Businesses and workplace operators
  • Municipalities and government agencies
  • Indigenous communities
  • Environmental organizations
  • Emergency services

On-site and group training is also available for organizations across Ontario.

A Personal Commitment to Rider Safety

Greg understands firsthand why proper training matters. Early in his riding experience, he was involved in an ATV incident that resulted in a trip to the hospital.

The experience reinforced an important lesson: many off-road vehicle incidents can be prevented through quality education, practical training, and better decision-making. That lesson continues to shape every course Greg teaches, with the goal of helping participants avoid preventable mistakes and return home safely after every ride.

His training philosophy is simple: “Learning to operate an ATV is only the beginning. True rider safety comes from understanding risk, making good decisions, and developing the confidence to recognize hazards before they become emergencies.”

Every QuadTraining course is built around one goal: helping each participant become a safer, more knowledgeable, and more confident off-road vehicle operator.

Living the Lifestyle He Teaches

When Greg is not teaching, you will often find him exploring Ontario’s backcountry with his wife. Together, they enjoy ATV riding, boating, swimming, and spending time outdoors.

Recreational riding also keeps Greg connected to the terrain, changing weather, trail conditions, and decisions his students may encounter. He brings those firsthand experiences into the classroom and practical riding exercises, making each course more relevant and engaging.

Greg and his wife live on a 50-acre property in Haliburton, where they have developed a private training facility that reflects the types of environments riders experience in the real world.

Whether he is working with a first-time rider or an experienced workplace operator, Greg believes the most effective instruction comes from someone who does more than teach safe riding—he actively lives it.

Learning to use the throttle is only the beginning.  Professional rider safety training teaches participants to recognize hazards, evaluate terrain, manage risk, and make informed decisions before an incident occurs.

At QuadTraining Inc., we do more than teach vehicle operation—we help develop safer, more confident riders for work and recreation.
