Greg's Bio

For Greg Barr, off-road vehicle safety isn't just a profession—it's a lifelong passion.

Greg's career began at the age of 14 as a high school co-op student in the small engine industry. After completing college in the same trade, he spent decades working in the power equipment and off-road vehicle industry, gaining extensive experience in service, sales, technical support, and professional instruction. His career also included serving as a national technical trainer for Briggs & Stratton, where he trained dealership technicians across Canada.

His passion for ATV riding naturally led him into the world of rider safety education. Over the years, Greg became actively involved with the Ontario Federation of ATV Clubs (OFATV), serving as a Director. Through his work with the OFATV, he went on to represent Ontario on the Canadian Quad Council (CQC), helping support the advancement of ATV rider safety and education across Canada.

Today, Greg has dedicated his career to providing professional rider safety training through QuadTraining Inc. His programs combine current legislation, industry best practices, manufacturer recommendations, and real-world experience to deliver engaging, practical training that prepares riders for the situations they are most likely to encounter.

Unlike many instructors who teach a wide variety of unrelated subjects, Greg has chosen to specialize in off-road vehicle safety. This focused approach allows him to continually refine his curriculum, invest in modern training equipment, and provide instruction that remains current with changing technology and safety standards.

Greg has completed instructor certifications and professional development through organizations including the Canadian Quad Council (CQC), Canada Safety Council (CSC), Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association (ROHVA), and numerous additional training programs in communication, customer service, and adult education. His curriculum is continually updated to reflect current industry expectations and the principles promoted by the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS).

Operating from a dedicated private training facility in Haliburton, Ontario, Greg provides rider safety training for individuals, families, businesses, municipalities, Indigenous communities, government agencies, environmental organizations, and emergency services across Ontario.

His philosophy is simple:

"Learning to operate an ATV is only the beginning. True rider safety comes from understanding risk, making good decisions, and developing the confidence to recognize hazards before they become emergencies."

Every course Greg teaches is built around one goal: ensuring that every participant leaves as a safer, more knowledgeable, and more confident off-road vehicle operator.

Greg understands firsthand the importance of proper rider training. Early in his riding experience, he was involved in an ATV incident that resulted in a trip to the hospital. That experience reinforced a simple belief: many incidents can be prevented through quality education and practical training. Today, that lesson continues to shape every course he teaches, with the goal of helping others avoid the same mistakes and return home safely after every ride.

When Greg isn't teaching, you'll often find him exploring Ontario's backcountry with his wife. Together they share a passion for the outdoors, spending their free time riding ATVs, boating, swimming, and enjoying the natural beauty that Ontario has to offer.

For Greg, recreational riding is more than a hobby—it's an opportunity to continually experience the same terrain, changing weather conditions, trail challenges, and decision-making situations that his students will encounter. That firsthand experience allows him to bring practical, real-world examples into every course, making the training more relevant, engaging, and applicable.

Living on a 50-acre property in Haliburton has allowed Greg and his wife to fully embrace an outdoor lifestyle while developing a private training facility that reflects the types of environments riders actually experience. Whether teaching a first-time rider or an experienced workplace operator, Greg believes the best instruction comes from someone who not only teaches safe riding, but actively lives it.
